57 women professionals from 31 developing countries develop entrepreneurial skills

Ahmedabad 14th August 2024: Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad (EDII) organised the Development’ sponsored by the ITEC division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The programme began on August 1, 2024, and concluded on August 14, 2024 witnessing 57 women professionals from 31 developing countries.

The Chief Guest of the valedictory programme was Shri Rakesh Shankar, IAS, Secretary, Women and Child Development Department, Govt. of Gujarat and the Guest of Honour was Shri Rohan Singh, OSD [TC-I], Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.  Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII and Programme Director Dr. Baishali Mitra were also present on the occasion.

The programme primarily focused on equipping the participants with a set of new tools and methodologies to develop and enhance their entrepreneurial capabilities. The primary objectives were objectives to disseminate knowledge on tools and techniques that may facilitate the increase and growth of new women entrepreneurs; enrich knowledge regarding identification of business opportunities and preparation of viable business plans, devise techniques to enhance leadership and managerial capabilities within women; disseminate information regarding the variety of business facilities offered by various agencies and bodies and help planners and policymakers in designing policies for women entrepreneurs.

Shri Rakesh Shankar, addressing the participants said, “With women from so many nations coming together, there is a lot of exchange of experiences and information, leading to building of knowledge that can inspire change. Women have immense power to induce development around them and when they are empowered through such programmes, the society and economy get phenomenally empowered. I urge all the women participants here to tab their potential, be the change that they wish to see and light the path for others.”

Shri Rohan Singh said, It is important to sensitize women towards important issues and constraints typically related to them when it comes to entrepreneurship. When they are sensitized & trained they can evolve as successful entrepreneurs and even play a major role in the growth and development of women entrepreneurs in various ways. I am sure, this group of bright young women were able to derive insights into the existing gaps in the field, and will devise outcome-based action plans to help women grow exponentially.

Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, said,Entrepreneurship is fast becoming a way of life in India, especially among women with several programmes and policies being mounted to sensitize and train them about the potential of entrepreneurship. Proactive policies and measures of the government are also ensuring that women come to the forefront as entrepreneurs and realize that this discipline is the most powerful development tool.
