Ahmedabad 5th December 2024: Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, launched International Programme on ‘Marine Agri-Entrepreneurship and Supply Chain Management’ on 5th December 2024. The programme supported by the ITEC (Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India will continue till December 17, 2024. The programme brings together 23 professionals from 14 ITEC partner countries to explore opportunities and address challenges in marine agriculture and supply chain management, leading to entrepreneurship awareness in the domain.The countries represented include; Bangladesh, Cote D’voire, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Uganda, Zimbabwe.
On 5th December, 2024 the inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Viraj Singh, Additional Secretary (DPA-II & IV), Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the programme, he stated, “India’s commitment to fostering global partnerships through programmes like these demonstrate our shared vision of sustainable growth and development. The idea of India offering a helping hand to the world in their development journey came in, with the country recognizing the significance of human capital and skills in its own growth journey since independence.” Shri Singh encouraged the participants to make maximum use of this opportunity.
Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, emphasized how international programmes have been fostering learning and reinforcing the concept of ‘VasudhaivaKutumbakam’ – the whole world is one family. He said, “Entrepreneurship depends on two factors –financial capital and social capital which primarily involves human resource development and a conducive environment for the growth of entrepreneurship. EDII is committed to developing social capital and knowledge & skills that help access other entrepreneurial requirements, such as capital, markets and networks.”
As Course Director, Dr. Satya Ranjan Acharya explained, “As a tangible outcome of the programme, the participating officials from the domains of marine, aqua, fisheries and other departments will get empowered with skills and a strong entrepreneurial attitude that fosters innovation by combining knowledge, ideas, and necessary skills to develop sustainable solutions towards addressing economic issues in the marine agriculture system in their respective countries, leading to a high incidence of entrepreneurship feats.“
The course is divided into six modules, each covering vital aspects of environmental sustainability, resource management, and efficient supply chain systems. The modules include; Entrepreneurship: Characteristics of entrepreneur, motivation and entrepreneurship; Agri-business Environment; Opportunities in: Marine Agricultural inputs, Aquaculture, Organic farming, Food processing, commercial aquaculture, Exports, Agri services, Post-production technologies; Knowledge and skills in project formulation and project appraisal, evaluation of Agri projects; Managing a Successful Marine Agri- business & Visit to successful Agri-business Units; Supply Chain Management.
EDII’s association with Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, goes back 2000-2001 EDII is committed to building capacities of professionals from developing nations. Over these 24 years of fruitful association, the Institute has organized 190 training courses on various facets of entrepreneurship, thus training 4737 officials.
