In India, roughly 95% of VPD-related deaths occur in adults.[i] Adult vaccination is a proven, effective tool to strengthen people’s layered defence against infections, avoid health complications, and enhance their quality of life. This is especially important in the case of at-risk individuals, such as those with Chronic Lung disease (COPD & Asthma), Diabetes, Chronic Heart Disease, Chronic Kidney Disease, or other immunocompromised conditions. However, awareness and adoption of adult immunization in India continues to be low. The CoE in Zydus Hospital, Anand will play an important role to equip healthcare professionals with the latest, science-backed information on the long-term benefits of adult immunization, guiding them to help promote its community-wide adoption.
